The Place Where Excellent Horses are Born, Bred and TRAINED!

Let Us Help You with the LOVE OF YOUR LIFE….Your Horse!

"Patient, Practical yet Progressive"
Training Foundation Basics for all Disciplines.

Training at the ranch starts with the Yearling and the Green Horse, then progresses to a Solid Foundation that will prepare him for more advanced training in any number of disciplines such as Competitive Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, and Trail.  Our broad range of teaching styles cover everything from lead changes for the more advanced horse to helping the Fox Hunter have a more dependable mount that is both safe and enjoyable. We also train horses in both English and Western "ways of going".

(owned by Todd and Vicki Simmons)

Our trainers will also help you evaluate your horse's capabilities and develop an appropriate training schedule. Your horse will be handled and trained consistently during its stay at the ranch. We have very skilled assistant trainers that are excellent at round pen work and starting your young horse under saddle and readying your horse for training.

MOUNTAINTOP RANCH welcomes new trainer

EILEEN SMITH

Eileen was born and brought up in Germany.  From an early age she has been in love with horses, and it has always been her dream to pursue an equine career.  Eileen attended College in the Netherlands for 2 years where she studied Equine Science and Business Management.  She then moved to California where she interned at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center and concentrated her studies on horse training.  Through her aunt, Eileen was introduced to the exciting world of reining horses.  She learned how incredible it is to teach a horse such a high standard of performance while responding to minimum cues.

She has always been very interested in animal welfare, especially when it comes to the connection between human and horse and different non-violent training methods.  During her stay in Los Angeles, Eileen had the chance to study Natural Horsemanship, and she makes it the foundation for training all her horses no matter the discipline.  Eileen had ridden for approximately 18 years and has completed three apprenticeships—two in America and one in Germany with a reining trainer.

Eileen trained at Mountaintop Ranch for the past year with Luann Taylor, our former trainer.  Luann prepared Eileen for the role of head trainer while she pursues her dream to work with children.  Eileen excels at teaching horses and all round foundation in a gentle way. Her goal is to achieve competitive results with the help of communication with the horse rather than pressuring the horse with every step it takes.  Eileen’s focus is to naturally teach a horse everything it should know to make a great life time partner for its owner—whether riding english or western.   Eileen Smith is an excellent trainer, teacher and rider.

HEATHER CONRAD

Heather Conrad is our barn manager at Mountaintop Ranch. She has many years of experience in the horse industry. She grew up riding and showing Morgans. After college, she worked for COCA COLA Corp. for many years but her heart was always with the horses. She took a break from the Corporate World and worked in the TB industry as exercise rider and assistant trainer.

Heather has decided to settle in Va. and she came to work as the Barn Manager for Mountaintop Ranch. Heather brings to the ranch many skills both in office management, horse management and a love for riding horses of all breeds. She also plays an integral part in helping our apprentices feel at home and working them into our riding and barn management programs.

*Stallions and Problem Horses Welcome
We train year round in a covered arena, a covered round pen, a 100-ft round open cutting arena, a large open arena suitable for training barrel horses and reiners with a sliding track, and on 350 acres of mountain trails.
