Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains there is a magical place where dreams have been lived. For almost half a century, and 3 generations, The Cunninghams have found sanctuary and livelihood at their Mountaintop Ranch. Both Natives of West Texas, founders Bettie, and Virgle, had careers that brought them to Washington D.C. While on a quest to find a serene place to spend weekends and holidays with family, they were led to the sanctuary like property bordering the Shenandoah National Park, now called Mountaintop Ranch. A weekend get-a-away place as well as a timber operation, Mountaintop Ranch started in 1972. Bettie and Virgle come from a long line of Texas Ranchers. As the Cunninghams retired from their successful careers, they decided to share their unique wilderness haven with the public, through a trail riding program. The extension of their thriving horse business soon included The Equine Center, full-service breeding, foaling, training and consulting service for Quarter and Paint horses. Along with their daughter Lydia, they have bred champion lines and trained world-class horse trainers at the Ranch. Equine residents from all over the world have taken advantage of what Mountaintop Ranch offers.

 

Starting in 2019, Mountaintop Ranch is adding to its offerings once again. THE BED AND BARN at Mountaintop Ranch is a truly unique vacation destination for both guests and their horses. Now headed by Lydia Cunningham, the Ranch will continue sharing their secluded, premier, wilderness retreat property, through lodging. Whether it be in one of the log cabins, a room at the Log Home of the Cunningham Family, or on one of the private campsites, THE BED AND BARN will surely continue the legacy of this horse-loving family.
